3. Go over Theme and Choice activity
4. Writing- Just like we did for The Sniper, you are going to write two paragraphs.  Here are the directions:

Paragraph 1- what is the theme and how does the author develop that theme?  Use the format below to complete this paragraph.

Topic Sentence/Claim- The theme of Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy? is _______, and Tim O'Brien develops that theme through his use of____________________.

Textual Evidence- word for word evidence from the text
Elaboration- 2-3 sentences explaining how the evidence supports your claim

Closing Sentence- wrap it up


Paragraph 2- revisit the theme and choice sheet we completed earlier.  Look at some of the changes you have made.

Take on the voice of the author and change the theme.  You can add to to the story or change what is already written, but you need to change the theme.  Basically, you are now the author.  Rewrite the story in order to get a new theme.
